CANOES OR KAYAKS?
Sultana Projects
offers both canoe and kayak-based programs at various locations around
the Chesapeake. These programs use either a traveling rig of 10 canoes
or a separate rig of 15 kayaks.
Which type of
watercraft is better for your group - canoe or kayak? Here are a few
important factors to consider when making your decision:
Canoe Programs
- Canoe programs
can accommodate up to 25 student participants or 18 adult
participants.
- Canoe programs
more easily accommodate participants that are new to paddling or are
uncertain on the water.
- Canoe programs
can accommodate groups ages 6th grade and up. Groups as young as 3rd
grade can be considered with sufficient adult supervision.
Kayak Programs
- Kayak programs
can accommodate a maximum of 12 participants.
- Operating a
kayak can be more strenuous than operating a canoe.
- Kayaks are
limited to one person each, so every person in your group must be
comfortable paddling alone.
- Two sizes of
kayaks are available: 9.5’ and 12’. Kayaks have a strict weight
limit of 250-300 pounds
- The minimum age
for a kayak program is 7th grade.
